Construction of Albania-Kosovo motorway in sight

Tirana - Albanian authorities signed EUR418 worth agreement with US-Turkish "Bechtel Corporation" for construction of a highway linking the country with Kosovo.

The four-lane highway is envisaged to be 57 kilometers long, including a 6-kilommeter tunnel.

According to the Albanian Finance Ministry, the funds have been provided by the Government and numerous international funds and banks.

The construction works are slated to begin in late October and to be completed by 2009.

The existing way linking Albania and Kosovo is a dilapidated two-lane road allowing maximum driving speed of 40 km/h.
