PRISTINA - Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Kosovo (SRSG) Søren Jessen-Petersen this morning in Vienna chaired a meeting of the informal Steering Group on future international arrangements. The Steering Group brings together UNMIK and its partners, including the EU, NATO and the OSCE, and focuses on the possible needs in Kosovo as well as the respective roles of relevant organisations following the settlement of Kosovo's status without pre-judging the outcome of the status process.

The discussions in Vienna, in continuation of the regular dialogue that UNMIK has with its partners, covered areas such as Rule of Law, Good Governance, Democratisation, Human Rights, Minority Issues and Economic and Fiscal Issues.

"We are making good progress with our partners in preparing for the needs that Kosovo will have following the settlement of status, and how the international community will work with the Kosovo government in order to continue to support and assist the development of Kosovo", said the SRSG.

UNMIK and its partners are working in close co-operation with the Status Envoy Martti Ahtisaari, and his Deputy, Albert Rohan, took part in the meeting.

The SRSG said that he will be briefing the PISG and the Kosovo Negotiating Team on today's meeting when he arrives back in Pristina on Wednesday, and will also brief the Serbian authorities when he travels to Belgrade next month.
