Serbia demands Ahtisaari's resignation

Makfax news agency, Skopje, 6.11.2006 18:27

Belgrade - Serbian Government requested today for Martti Ahtisaari, the UN Special Envoy on Kosovo status talks, to step down from the post.

"It would be best if Ahtisaari was replaced by another mediator, who would observe the UN Human Rights Charter right from the outset", said Srdjan Djuricic, the spokesman of the Serbian Government.

He added that is highly improbable that Ahtisaari had been granted an authorization to work out secretly, together with Albanians, any document relating Kosovo.

"Thus far, Serbia has not been presented with a single letter of Ahtisaari's draft-proposal, which serves as an evidence that instead of mediating proper negotiations, he pursues the goal of imposing controlled negotiations that would lead to an outcome which was determined beforehand", Djuricic said.
