Budapest, February 12 (MTI) - Eight ethnic Albanians from Kosovo who tried to enter Hungary illegally were caught by a border patrol near the Serbia border, said a Border Guard spokesperson on Sunday.

At 2350 local time on Saturday, the Serbian citizens were discovered together with two Hungarian citizens, who have been charged on suspicion of human smuggling. One of the Albanians managed to flee but was caught later, Ivan Kovacs said.

The men aged between 20 and 30 had each paid 2,500 euros in Kosovo to be smuggled across the border.

The men have been taken to a detention centre in Kiskunhalas for further questioning.
